ASIAN COMMUNITIES: LIVED EXPERIENCES, CHALLENGES, AND RESILIENCE

About Our Event

Collaboratively organised by the Center for Economics Humanities and Tourism (CEHT), Research Institute and Community Engagement (RICE) Universitas Negeri Malang (UM); Universiti Malaya; Al-Farabi Kazakh University, The Education University of Hong Kong, UCSI University, and Indonesian Research Agency and National Innovation

Asia is home to vibrant cultures, dynamic economies, and complex histories. Yet, beneath this diversity lies a persistent reality—numerous communities remain marginalised due to structural inequalities, historical injustices, and socio-political exclusions. This conference considers the historical and contemporary processes of marginalisation in Asia, analysing how structural forces perpetuate social exclusion while also exploring the resilience and resistance of marginalised communities. Drawing on case studies from various Southeast Asian countries, the conference could provide a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms of marginalisation and how affected communities navigate and contest their conditions. By amplifying these voices, this research contributes to the broader discourse on equity, inclusion, and policy interventions aimed at fostering a more just and inclusive Asian society.

The 7th International Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences (ICHSS) invites scholars, researchers, and practitioners to engage in meaningful discussions on the theme of “Asian Communities: Lived Experiences, Challenges, and Resilience”. This conference aims to explore the multifaceted dimensions of marginalisation, shedding light on the lived experiences, challenges, and resilience of those on the peripheries of society. This conference provides a platform to critically examine these pressing issues, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaborative solutions. By amplifying the voices of marginalised communities, we seek to contribute to more inclusive and equitable societies across Southeast Asia.

The aims of this conference are:

  1. To bring scholars, practitioners, and educators to the field of social sciences.
  2. To generate an interdisciplinary approach in social science research, particularly in Asian studies.
  3. To identify emerging issues of social science in Asia.
  4. To create a new network of scholars, practitioners, and educators in Asia and to establish a consortium of various institutions.
